State of the Union 2011

After hearing President Obama's State of the Union speech, I realized what a motivational speaker Obama is and how his positive attitude reassures all Americans that there is hope to improve our nation. It was great to see the Republicans and Democrats sitting together, making it clear how Obama is trying to get more done by having both parties work together. He said, "We will move forward together or not at all." Throughout the speech, Obama clearly defines visions that he has for our nation and ways to achieve them. He talks a lot about the economy since this is one of the most important topics right now, as we have been in a recession and many people are still out of work and losing their houses. He touches on education, ways to help our environment, and technology advancements, making clear goals for improvement in all these areas, showing his strong desire to do what is best for the people. He uses examples such as the Allen brothers, who reinvented their roofing company to move into the future by building solar shingles to show how common people are working towards innovation for our future. I feel confident that Obama will do his best for our country after this powerful speech. It was inspiring when he said, "We do big things," and "The idea of America endures. Our destiny remains our choice." Overall, this State of the Union address was very hopeful and made the future look bright with Obama's leadership.

President Obama's State of the Union Address 2011

I found President Obama's State of the Union Address to be very concise and straightforward while still being inspirational and powerful. Before delivering his speech, President Obama gave his respects to the victims of the Tuscon Shooting. He then dove into his goals for the next few years. His plans included investing in innovation, reforming education, and rebuilding the nation's infrastructure.

President Obama wants to cut tax money that goes into oil companies in order to fund the research of renewable energy technology. He believes that a renewable energy market will create millions of new jobs for the unemployed. Although I like President Obama's ideas, I believe his goals are a little unrealistic. By 2034, President Obama wants 80% of the country's electricity to come from clean energy sources. An even more unrealistic goal is having 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. These are admirable goals; However, 2035 is actually not that far in the future. Will President Obama be able to initiate his plans to reach his goals in his remaining 2 years in office? It is highly doubtful, considering the party-line divides in Congress.

President Obama also discussed ending the "No Child Left Behind" policy and investing in his "Race to the Top" program in efforts to reform and improve education for young children. This was my favorite part of his speech--I always admire the amount of emphasis he places on how children are the future of the nation. I completely agree with President Obama, and support the actions he is taking to change the education programs of America in order to compete with the rest of the world.

Lastly, President Obama mentioned rebuilding the nation's infrastructure. He wants to fix bridges and railroads, and create high-speed rails that will be available to 80% of the people. I like this goal because it will create new jobs as well as improving the state of America.

In short, President Obama reiterated his original campaign message--Change. However, will he be able to change the nation in his remaining 2 years in office? I agree and like his ideas, but I highly doubt any of them will become true in the next decade.

State Of The Union 2011

There were many different area's Barak Obama covered durring the 2011 State of the Union speech. Such topics I felt to be more important then others were: competition,education, and economy. As Obama pointed out competition is fierce right now more and more states are passing us buy on the race to the top and that has to do with education. I completely agree that education is key. And our generation is slacking off/not taking it as seriously. Obama believes that family plays a huge role in determining how much a child will take their studies seriously and it's true. Logically if you know that your child has a test or a big essay to write and you decide to let them stay the night before it's due and watch Glee then it's partially the parent to blame for not saying or motivating the kid to get up off there bum and do there homework. Not sayig it's ust the parents fault infact it;s more of the childs fault. Obama's preech to get children to want to work harder is so important. It's teaching us that what we are doing right now is determining what we'll be doing 3 or 4 yers from now.

The second point I would like to point out is our economy. We ar going through a huge economic downfall. With all of these job losses it'd getting harder and harder for the average person to pay the bills or even send there kid to college. Thats why I agree with Obama on reshaping this economy. We need to pick those people back up on their feet. Thats why we are giving tax cutts to the middle class, or funding different organizations to raise money. There is a problem but the question is what are we going to do to fix it?

"Our Generation's Sputnik Moment"

President Obama's State of the Union, did little of what it was purposed to do and lacked to fully address the state of the union. In fact at times it appeared if Obama was avoiding the entire concept of addressing it. Obama began with respectful congratulations to the new speaker of the house, John Boehner, as well as a heartfelt condolence to the shot victim and house of representative member Gabrielle Gifford.

But what eager citizens sitting on their couches all across the country, whether in a trailer or in a multi-million dollar mansion, did not have a chance to hear was the oh so promised change that the Obama campaign was centered around. There was plenty of talk about the historical man on the moon, but little about the trillion dollar national deficit or the increase in unemployment.

He went on and on about all the things Americans should be working hard to accomplish by certain years and how to do them. While these goals were a charismatic balloon of hope the inside of that balloon it appeared to be empty. The air needed to fill it up was lacking because of the minimal chances of these things actually happening based on the TRUE current state of the union.

Innovation, education,

and the infrastructure of the US were the three main discussion points of the address. Not too far into his speech Obama declared “it's not just the winner of the Super Bowl who deserves to be celebrated, but the winner of the science fair.” His statements were extremely inspiring and surely quote worthy and any nerdy student couldn’t help but to revel in such a glorious utopia. But at last it was hard to focus on advancing in bioengineering, advancements in clean energy, better education encouraged to states with more federal funding, and finding ways to fit in illegal immigrants to our country when all of this involves more FEDERAL spending. More spending that our seemingly giant piggy bank of federal money can’t handle because it has already been broken open and now we are borrowing money sinking deeper and deeper into dept.

So while I sat wishing ever so hard to believe these things were going to happen, and trying to ignore the fact the current state of the union was not nearly so much as the rainbows and butterflies flying out of Obama’s mouth it was just impossible. The overall feeling of the state of the union address seems far better renamed as the Obama Campaign, 2012! And unless we really aren’t in debt as Obama neglected to speak about, it appears to be we are far from our generations ‘Sputnik moment’.

"America is not just a place on a map, but a light to the world"

On January 25th, 2011 President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union speech. It was not only articulate and powerful, it was motivational. Obama took the time to recognize and respect the recent shooting of one of his government workers, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. He then moved on to speak about his main themes. Obama touched on the topics of education, the economy, and the need to advance more in technology. The fact that he listed specific steps in how he has, or how he is planning to achieve these goals, made me appreciate this speech. He set goals like 80% of America will come from clean energy by 2035, and that we will have a million electric vehicles on our streets by 2015. These goals are big, and Obama's optimism only makes me believe them more. I like that he planned to eliminate the billion of dollars currently being given to oil companies to help bio medical research and investigate clean energy technology instead. The way he spoke of a specific example of the success of Race to the Top touched my, and I'm sure citizens all over our country, heart greatly. He is well aware of this, Obama said things that would grab the average citizens attention-that would matter to their everyday behavior, such as the progress of economics. He restored hope by reminding America that we still have the largest and most prosperous economy in the world. After the State of the Union address in 2011,I was proud to call Barack Obama my President.

"What comes of this moment is up to us. What comes of this moment will be determined not by whether we can sit together tonight," he continued, "but whether we can work together tomorrow."

In his address to Congress i thought president Obama was very encouraging. I liked the fact that he started first with observing the tragedy in Tuscon Arizona. The president discussed a lot a bout the economy. he said that America still has the biggest econy in the world. he discussed the need of bipartisanship and cooperation between the two parties so things could get done. Obama acknowledge the need for improved education so students in America can compete with students in Asia. He used the word change, together, and future a lot. I agree with the president in the case that education needs to improve so that students in America can create better technologies that students in Asia. the president talked a lot about innovation and how the Nation nedd to move towards cleaner energy.
