Justices Limit Life Sentences for Juveniles

1.Do you think the Supreme Court interpreted the Constitution correctly?
2. Other countries allow the imprisonment of juveniles for life without parole do you think we should do the same?
3. If you do agree with limiting life sentences what punishment do you think is better?

  1. 1) Yes, i believe the Supreme Court did interpret the Constitution correctly. A minor should not under any circumstances have to serve a life sentence without parole. That would be just like taking their whole life away. Everyone should get another chance at life.

    2) No, i think our country should not imprison juveniles for life without parole.

    3) I agree with limiting life sentences. The only thing i would do to limit that would be to allow parole. I think if someone has honestly been rehabilitated, and has learned from their previous mistake, then they should not have to continue to live in jail.

  2. 1. The supreme court did interpret the constitution correctly, the 8th amendment should protect them from cruel and unusual punishment. Giving juveniles life sentences without parole can be violating thir 8th amendment rights.
    2. I do not think that juveniles should be imprisoned for life, as Justice Stevens wrote "We learn, sometimes, by our mistakes." Juveniles should be given a second chance, and they will most likely learn from their mistake.
    3. I do agree with limiting life sentences. If someone has changed and seen their wrong doing they should be able to have their sentence shortened.
