Article 1- Debunking the myth: The cost of Obama's trip to Asia Article 1
In this article the media is acting as a watchdog. Since the reporter is talking about uncovering the truth to Obamas trip, the media was just acting as a watchdog, trying to figure out how much his trip costed. In the article, the reporter said, “but it quickly gained momentum, spreading like wildfire among critics of the Obama administration in the United States and eventually, the airwaves.” This quote is showing that this myth became big news and everyone wanted to try to figure out the truth. The white house said that, “the numbers are greatly inflated,” but some people still don’t believe that. The reports are still going to keep acting as watchdogs until everyone knows the truth.
Article 2-Anti-Pelosi ads break records
This article models a scorekeeper function because the media calculated how much money Pelosi has spent compared to the rest of the congressional leaders. In conclusion, over 65 million dollars have been spent on 161, 203 adds that were focused on Pelosi from January 1st until now. The fact that the media knows these specific details and numbers makes this a scorekeeper article.
Article 3-Obama, Singh discuss missed warnings on suspected terrorist
This article is acting as a gatekeeper because it is informing the people of things that have happened recently. This is something new that happened and the people wouldn’t have known about the second meeting that Obama and Singh had if it weren’t for the media covering this case. Obama and Singh got together and discussed why the US government missed a terror threat. Since it was the second time they disscused this matter it wasn’t AS important and the people wouldn't have known if it were for the gatekeeper media acting.
